Hindi Cell functioning in IITM is responsible for ensuring compliance of the Official Languages Act, the Rules and instructions received from MHRD from time to time regarding use of Hindi. Main directives are as under-

Compliance of Section 3(3) of the Official Languages Act, 1963.

All documents such as Office Orders, Memoranda, General Orders, Tender Notices, Permits, Contracts, Press Communique etc. are to be issued in bilingual form.

· Fulfilling the targets fixed for various items in the Annual Programme issued by the Dept. of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs.

i) Cent percent compliance of Section 3(3) of the Official Languages Act, 1963.

ii) Cent percent Hindi Training.

iii) Achieving 55% target for originating correspondence in Hindi from Region ‘C’ to ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ Regions.

iv) Institute Website in Bilingual.

v) Achieving target of 30% noting in Hindi.

· Organizing IITM OLIC Meeting and Hindi Workshops every quarter.

· Implementation of Incentive Scheme of MHA for doing official work in Hindi.

· Organizing Hindi Week Celebrations by conducting Competitions and cultural events to motivate employees towards Hindi.

· Preparation and distribution of Help Literature among the staff as per the instructions of Parliamentary Committee on Official Language.

· Participating in all TOLIC activities as one of the member offices of TOLIC.
